The government of Tamil Nadu, one of the major Indian states, has appointed Shia Islamic jurisprudence scholars, Sohail Haider Khan and Muhammad Abdul Rahman, as members of the state’s endowment board.
The appointment of the Shia researchers, according to what was reported by the Indian media followed by Shia Waves, comes after the resignation of former members of the endowment from the board of directors.
Special laws require that members be appointed based on the absence of a financial offense or criminal misdemeanor, as well as their good behavior and scientific and professional experience.
Although the state adopts the Christian faith in its belief, there is room for freedom for people of other religious beliefs, especially Shia Muslims, to establish their religious practices and rituals.
