More than a thousand Afghan soldiers fled to Tajikistan after battles with the Taliban terrorists
The Border Guard Command in Tajikistan said that more than a thousand Afghan soldiers entered the territory of this country, after battles with the elements of Taliban terrorist movement.
“During the armed clashes with the Taliban, 1,037 members of the Afghan government forces withdrew into the territory of Tajikistan in an attempt to escape inevitable death,” the command added, in a statement.
The border guards command indicated that based on the principle of good neighborliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of Afghanistan, elements of the Afghan army were allowed to move to Tajik territory, stressing that “the situation in these border areas is currently under the control of the border guards of the Republic of Tajikistan.”
The command noted that, during the past two weeks, the border area witnessed emergency transfers of Afghan forces to Tajik territory.
Last Sunday, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and his Afghan counterpart, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, had a telephone conversation, during which attention was focused on the worsening situation on the border between the two countries.
