Pakistan: Life imprisonment for citizen who insulted the Prophet
Pakistan’s Rawalpindi District Court has upheld a life sentence for a Christian man convicted of sending text messages that are offensive to the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny.
Morning Star News reported, “The district court has reduced the sentence of death to life imprisonment for the convict Zafar Bhatti, under Section 295-C of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws, for sending text messages offensive to the Prophet of Islam, peace be upon him and his progeny.”
It added that “the convict was sentenced after listening to audio samples, from a telephone company, that carried a direct insult to the Noble Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, which Pakistani law considers a punishable crime.”
