Canadian police announced that four members of a Muslim family in Canada were killed in a deliberate run-over by a truck, noting that the family was deliberately targeted in an anti-Islam hate crime.
“It was a premeditated crime, and therefore charges of first-degree murder have been brought against the 20-year-old attacker, Nathaniel Veltman,” said Paul Waight, chief of detectives for the City of London, about 200 kilometers southwest of Toronto.
He added that police are coordinating with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on possible terrorism charges, noting that “Veltman was arrested a short distance from the scene and was wearing a flak jacket.”
According to the police, the run-over accident, which occurred in the evening, killed a 74-year-old woman, a 46-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman, in addition to a 15-year-old girl, while one family member survived, a 9-year-old boy who was seriously injured.
The suspect, a young man in his 20s, was arrested shortly after the attack in London, about 200 km southwest of Toronto.
