Iraqis demand reconstruction of al-Baqi in front of the Saudi embassy in Baghdad

Hundreds of Iraqis, within the Procession of al-Wala’ Wa al-Fida’ Wa al-Fath set out to the Green Zone in Baghdad to demonstrate and demand the reconstruction of the graves of the Imams of al-Baqi, peace be upon them, in Medina that were destroyed by the deviant Wahhabis.
Procession sponsor and Head of PR of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi, Sayyed Aref Nasrallah, said that hundreds of citizens, tribal sheikhs, religious scholars, intellectuals and youth of all ages organized a trip to the capital, Baghdad, to organize a demonstration in front of the Saudi Arabian embassy to demand the reconstruction of al-Baqi cemetery in Medina.
Nasrallah explained that, years ago, the eighth day of Shawwal was considered the International Day of Baqi because it represents the painful memory of the Wahhabi assault on the graves of four imams of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, and the graves of some of the wives of the Prophet, peace be upon him and his progeny, as well as a number of his companions, by completely destroying them under the pretext of the prohibition of erecting domes on the shrines.
“We have not spared a mean to pressure the Saudi government to respect the feelings of millions of Muslims and preserve the heritage of prophethood in the land of the Hijaz, including Jannat al-Baqi, which includes the bodies of a number of imams, companions and mothers of the believers, peace be upon them all,” added Nasrallah.
He continued, “We have mentioned our legitimate demands in a statement presented to the embassies of countries and the headquarters of the Iraqi government in the presence of the media after demonstration as a form of denouncement, condemnation and rejection of the confiscation of freedom of belief and provoking the feelings of the followers of Islamic sects by preventing them from constructing the shrine, visiting it and holding ceremonies on various occasions.”
The public relations official stressed, “We will continue to revive this anniversary annually by peaceful means, and we will not stop until the Baqi is reconstructed and Muslims are allowed to visit it.”
