25 lawmakers in the US Congress consider Israeli practices a war crime

25 US Congressmen sent a letter to Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, urging him to exert diplomatic pressure on Israel to prevent it from deporting Palestinians from their places in the “Sheikh Jarrah” neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem, considering these practices a “war crime.”
Members of Congress who sent this letter, led by Mary Newman, a Representative in Illinois, and Mark Buchan, Wisconsin State Representative, said in their letter, “We are writing this letter to express our deep concern about Israel’s plan to displace approximately 2,000 Palestinians from the Al Bustan and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhoods in Jerusalem.”
The letter indicated that Israel demolished 100 buildings in the Al-Bustan neighborhood, where 1,550 Palestinians live, 60 percent of whom are children, in order to build a “Talmudic garden,” noting that there are notices from the Israeli side indicating its willingness to evacuate the homes of 12 Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, consisting of 169 people, 46 of whom are children, have been illegally housing Israeli settlers.
The letter also mentioned that the Israeli administration completely ignores the Palestinian families and considers them nothing.
According to the Soil Research Center, Israel destroyed about 5,000 Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem between 1967 and 2017, and according to the Israeli Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, Israel also destroyed 349 Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem between 2018 and 2020.
