Muslims in Virginia State Prison suffer from serious violations

Jay Gardner, the advisor for the Interfaith Organization for Human Rights in Virginia, USA, applied to the State Corrections Department, to find out the status of Muslim prisoners and detainees and whether they would be able to fast during the blessed month of Ramadan.
Media outlets, followed by Shia Waves, reported that “Gardner is forcing the Corrections Department to explain how it deals with Muslim prisoners and detainees during the blessed month of Ramadan and whether they will be allowed to fast.”
The media added, “The advisor has received complaints and claims from Muslim prisoners who have confirmed that they have been ill-treated by the Wallens Ridge State Prison administration.”
It pointed out that “last year the same prison witnessed cases of violations of the right of Muslims, as officers beat prisoners and prevented them from eating iftar meals during the month of Ramadan.”
