Babylon prepares file to add Thilkifl Site to UNESCO’s World Heritage List


Iraq’s State Board of Antiquities and Heritage announced the preparation of a file for adding the archaeological site and shrine of Prophet Thilkifl (Ezekiel) to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Inspector Qahtan Abbas said that a complete file had been prepared for submission to UNESCO, as the shrine is considered an important archaeological, cultural and religious site.
“The inclusion of the site on the World Heritage List will have positive outcomes, the most important of which is that it will be protected within the human heritage, and it will also turn into an important tourist attraction in the world, and as a result, it will witness continuous rehabilitation and maintenance work,” explained Abbas.
The city of al-Kifl embraces the shrine of the Prophet Thulkifl, peace be upon him, which bears his name, and is located between Babylon, Najaf and Karbala, near the Euphrates River.
