Guterres calls on the Security Council to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, called for more efforts to “provide access to humanitarian aid” in Syria, calling on the UN Security Council to “achieve consensus on this crucial issue.”
In a press conference held on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the outbreak of war in Syria, Guterres described the situation in Syria as a “nightmare” and said that “about 60% of Syrians are at risk of hunger this year.”
The Secretary-General called for more efforts to “provide access to humanitarian aid” in Syria, stressing that intensive deliveries across conflict lines (inside Syria) and across borders “are necessary to reach all those in need everywhere.”
“It is for this reason that I have repeatedly urged the Security Council to achieve consensus on this crucial issue,” Guterres said.
