Human Rights Watch calls for halt to arms sales to Egypt
Human Rights Watch called for an end to arms sales to Egypt, and for aid to be directed to institutions that serve the people directly.
This came in a statement by Kenneth Roth, Executive Director of the organization, commenting on the visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to France.
France is currently ahead of the United States in arms sales to Egypt, as it sold Cairo worth 1.4 billion euros in 2017, according to the French newspaper Le Monde.
Egypt faces international criticism regarding restricting freedoms and arresting dissidents, but Cairo has repeatedly affirmed its keenness to abide by the law and human rights principles.
