Iraq: The Council of Representatives votes on the first amendment to the law “Samarra, the capital of Islamic civilization”
In its last session, the Iraqi Council of Representatives voted on the first amendment to the law of ‘Samarra: the capital of Iraq for Islamic civilization’, highlighting the role of the al-Askariyain Holy Shrine due to its religious and historical depth and it being a source of culture and civilization.
The Council’s Media Department said in a statement, seen by Shiawaves, “The session chaired by Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hassan al-Kaabi, began with voting on law No. 5 of 2018 recognizing the city of Samarra as the capital of Iraq for Islamic civilization,” indicating “The first article of the amendment includes highlighting the role of the al-Askariyain Holy Shrine, resulting from the role of the Holy Shrine on creating a spirit of peaceful coexistence amongst all sects, in addition to its contribution to strengthening financial and economic resources in the city.”
The statement added that the second item of the first article includes “calling for attention to religious endowments and antiquities, and caring for pilgrims and tourists coming to the holy city,” while the third item includes “developing local administrations for the city of Samarra and raising the level of administrative, religious and service departments in the city.”
