Pope Leo expressed sorrow over the decline of international law’s authority

Pope Leo expressed deep concern on Thursday over the diminishing authority of international law, Anadolu Agency reported.
He stated on X that it is troubling to witness how international and humanitarian laws seem to have lost their binding power, being replaced by a supposed right to dominate others.
He described this shift as both disgraceful for humanity and a failure of global leadership.
The Pope also emphasized that history has repeatedly shown that war fails to bring lasting peace.
He questioned how anyone can believe, after centuries of experience, that warfare leads to peace rather than backfiring on those who initiate it.
Finally, he stressed that the future should be built on unity and a shared vision guided by the common good.
