Turkish authorities have detained 28 Afghan migrants in separate operations across multiple cities, transferring them to deportation centers for legal processing, Khaama Press reported. In Sivas, 22 undocumented Afghan nationals were arrested in three coordinated police raids, alongside six Turkish citizens suspected of human trafficking, who were handed over to judicial authorities.
In a separate operation in Kars, six more Afghan migrants were detained. The arrests come amid Turkey’s intensified efforts to curb undocumented migration, particularly from Afghanistan, where instability has driven thousands to attempt reaching Europe through Turkey.
While Turkey hosts a large refugee population, international rights groups have expressed concern over the treatment of migrants, including allegations of abuse and deportations without due process. Some Afghans claim mistreatment even when holding valid permits.
Rights advocates urge Turkish authorities to uphold legal protections and humane treatment for migrants as security operations and border control efforts continue across the country.
