A German human rights group has raised concern over a sharp rise in far-right violence across the country in 2024, with more than 3,450 attacks recorded—a 20% increase from the previous year, Anadolu Agency reported.
Speaking at a press briefing in Berlin on Tuesday, anti-racism expert Judith Porath highlighted that this equates to an average of nine incidents per day, including assaults involving weapons, explosives, and fire accelerants.
The attacks resulted in nine deaths and four cases of homicide. A total of 4,861 individuals, including 679 children, were affected by the violence. Porath, who leads a victim support group in Brandenburg, emphasized that racism was the main motive in nearly half of the cases and that perpetrators and victims were mostly male.
She also linked the rise in violence to growing support for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and called for political action to address the trend.
