More than 100 people have died and many others are missing following severe flash floods in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Heavy overnight rainfall triggered flooding in South Kivu province, destroying homes and displacing numerous families.
The region, nearing the end of its wet season, remains at risk as more rain is forecast in the coming days. Rescue operations are underway, but difficult conditions are hampering access to the worst-affected areas. Authorities continue to assess the scale of the damage and search for survivors.
