CSU students launch hunger strike over Gaza aid blockade and divestment demands

Students from four California State University campuses have launched a hunger strike to protest the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and demand divestment from companies tied to the defense industry, The Guardian reported. The strike began on May 5, with participants from San Jose State, Sacramento State, San Francisco State, and CSU Long Beach.

Protesters cite the ongoing Israeli blockade of aid to Gaza, now in its second month, as a key reason for their action. The students are also urging the CSU system to sever ties with weapons manufacturers, end partnerships with Israeli universities, and adopt human rights investment screening policies.

While some campuses have begun limited divestment, protesters say more needs to be done. CSU officials stated they will not change investment policies but will continue to support peaceful protest. Hunger strikers are holding educational events and undergoing regular health checks as they continue their fast.
