Russian President declares temporary ceasefire in Ukraine for Victory DaR

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine, set to begin at midnight on May 8 and end at midnight on May 11. According to a Kremlin statement, the truce is described as “humanitarian” and coincides with Russia’s Victory Day celebrations marking the end of World War II.

The Kremlin stated that all military operations would be suspended during this period and urged Ukraine to observe the ceasefire as well, warning that any violations would be met with a response. However, Moscow continues to reject Kyiv’s demand for a full, unconditional ceasefire as a foundation for broader peace talks.

This is not the first temporary truce announced by Russia; a previous Easter ceasefire reportedly saw thousands of violations. While Russian officials present the move as a goodwill gesture, critics argue that such announcements have yet to produce lasting results amid ongoing hostilities and international pressure.
