U.S. airstrikes on Yemen port reportedly kill 38, wound over 100

At least 38 people were killed and 102 injured in U.S. airstrikes on Yemen’s Ras Isa fuel port, according to Houthi-run media. The strikes, carried out on Thursday, mark one of the deadliest days since the U.S. launched operations against the Houthis earlier this year.

The U.S. military said the attack targeted a key fuel supply used by the Houthis and aimed to weaken their economic resources. U.S. Central Command declined to confirm the reported casualties, referring only to its initial statement.

A decade of violence and uncertainty has shattered Yemen’s already weak economy and left millions of people unable to find decent livelihoods to support their families. As a result, out of a population of roughly 36 million, about 19 million people require aid – 15 million of whom are women and children. Half of all children under five in Yemen are malnourished, according to Unicef.
