Afghan families fear for future as Pakistan expels undocumented migrants

As Pakistan continues deporting undocumented migrants, many Afghan returnees express concern for their children’s future under Taliban rule. Families fear limited access to education and employment in Afghanistan, where economic conditions remain fragile.
Over 861,000 Afghans have left or been deported since mid-September 2023, according to IOM figures. Deportees report poor conditions in holding camps and allege police bribery.
More than 500,000 have crossed through major Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border points. The UN says over 44,000 migrants returned in the past ten days, with thousands forcibly removed. Pakistan plans to expel over 800,000 Afghan Citizen Card holders, raising humanitarian concerns.
