UN warns of deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza as aid blockade continues

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that Gaza is becoming a “killing field,” urging immediate global action as humanitarian aid to the territory remains blocked. Speaking on Tuesday, Guterres said civilians are trapped in an “endless death loop,” and called on Israel, as the occupying power, to allow food and medical supplies into the Strip in line with international law.

His remarks follow a joint appeal by six UN agencies, including UNICEF, WHO, and the World Food Programme, highlighting severe shortages in food, medicine, and medical supplies. They reported that UN-supported bakeries have shut down, hospitals are overwhelmed, and markets lack basic goods.

Israel, which imposed a blockade on Gaza after the collapse of a ceasefire on March 2, has resumed its military offensive. Israeli authorities insist there is no aid shortage and accuse Guterres of slander, citing the entry of over 25,000 aid trucks during the ceasefire. Gaza’s health ministry reports over 50,800 Palestinians have been killed since the war began. Recent Israeli strikes reportedly killed at least 58 people in 24 hours, including children and journalists.
