Iraqi security forces have intensified their operations against ISIS, eliminating 18 senior leaders in a single mission in 2024, according to Sabah Al-Numan, spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Among those killed was “Abu Khadija,” a key figure overseeing ISIS operations in Iraq and Syria.
Al-Numan highlighted that intelligence-driven operations have inflicted heavy losses on the group over the past two years, significantly weakening its leadership, emphasizing Iraq’s growing counterterrorism capabilities, attributing them to extensive training and operational experience.
In parallel, Iraq has reinforced its border security, particularly along the Syrian frontier, deploying advanced surveillance technology and increasing military presence to prevent terrorist infiltration.
Al-Numan noted that these measures have strengthened Iraq’s ability to combat threats more effectively than in previous years. The government remains committed to securing the country and dismantling ISIS remnants through targeted operations and strategic defense enhancements.
