Shia Muslims in Barcelona hold mourning procession for Imam Ali’s Martyrdom

Shia Muslims in the Spanish city of Barcelona commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), through a large mourning procession that took place in the streets of the city, amid an atmosphere of grief and sorrow.

The website (ImamBargah Al-Qaim Barcelona) reported, that Shia activities in Barcelona during Ramadan included numerous events, most notably the commemoration of the martyrdom of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him). A large mourning procession took place in the Ciutat Vella district, featuring a symbolic funeral to recall the great tragedy.

The report noted that the personality of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) holds a significant place in Islamic heritage, especially among the followers of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them). Participants in the procession expressed their deep sorrow and profound pain over this calamity, affirming their commitment to the values and principles of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) in justice, sacrifice, and supporting the oppressed.

The report explained that the Shia presence in Barcelona dates back to the 1980s and grew significantly during the 1990s with the arrival of large numbers of Pakistani and Lebanese refugees. The first Hussainiya (Shia religious center) was established in the city, becoming a hub for religious observances and rituals.

It is worth noting that Shia Muslims around the world commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) in the mihrab of the Kufa Mosque, reaffirming their loyalty to his principles, which represent the pinnacle of selflessness, piety, and social justice.
