Grand Ayatollah Shirazi highlights self-discipline and spiritual reflection during Ramadan

The Supreme Religious Authority, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, has urged believers to make the most of the blessed month of Ramadan by training and disciplining their souls to embrace asceticism, while warning against indulging in pleasures and falling into excessive consumerism.
His Eminence emphasized that fasting is not merely abstaining from food and drink, but rather a means to develop one’s spiritual dimension and detach from excessive attachment to material things.
He stated: “During the month of Ramadan, a person can reach a state where a single dinar and a billion dinars become equal in their eyes as mere wealth. They neither chase after the former nor grieve the loss of the latter. Instead, they are concerned about losing the reward of Allah, and they do not neglect to perform the virtuous deeds they are capable of.”
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi affirmed that the most dangerous enemy of a person is their own soul, calling for constant vigilance against it and the need to understand and adhere to the boundaries set by Allah the Almighty.
The Supreme Marja also stressed the importance of self-accountability and daily reflection on one’s actions and intentions, explaining that for those who keep Allah present in their consciousness, self-accountability remains a constant practice as long as they are awake.
In many of his recommendations, His Eminence emphasizes the necessity of seizing the opportunity of Ramadan to bring about change and ascend the ranks of perfection, considering this holy month a crucial period for refining the soul and drawing closer to Allah through self-discipline and spiritual struggle.
