Fasting hours during Ramadan vary worldwide depending on each country’s geographical location, particularly its proximity to the equator and longitude-latitude lines.

Most Arab and Muslim countries have announced that Ramadan 2025 will begin on Saturday, with fasting hours gradually increasing as the month progresses due to longer daylight hours approaching summer. By the end of Ramadan, fasting durations will be about an hour longer than on the first day.

In Scandinavian countries such as Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark, as well as in Iceland, Greenland, northern Canada, and Alaska, fasting hours will be among the longest, ranging between 19 and 21 hours.

Conversely, in the Southern Hemisphere, where daylight hours are shorter, fasting will range between 11 and 13 hours. For example, in Brasília (Brazil) and Harare (Zimbabwe), fasting hours will be around 12 to 13 hours, while in Johannesburg and Cape Town (South Africa), Ciudad del Este (Paraguay), and Montevideo (Uruguay), they will be between 11 and 12 hours.

In Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Christchurch (New Zealand), fasting will last around 12 hours, whereas some cities in Chile will experience one of the shortest fasting durations at approximately 11 hours.

Among Arab countries, Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco will have the longest fasting hours, ranging from 14 to 16 hours. In Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, fasting will last between 15 and 16 hours on the longest days.

In contrast, countries near or south of the equator, such as the Comoros Islands, will have the shortest fasting durations of around 12 to 13 hours. Similarly, Sudan, Yemen, and Somalia will have fasting hours between 13 and 14 hours.
