U.Va. students prepare for Holy Ramadan with expanded dining and community events

Muslim students at the University of Virginia (U.Va.) are preparing for the coming blessed month of Ramadan. To support fasting students, U.Va. Dine will introduce a buffet at Za’atar at The Castle, offering suhoor and iftar meals tailored to Ramadan traditions.

The Muslim Student Association (MSA) is also organizing daily iftar dinners in collaboration with various student groups and schools. Additionally, a Fast-a-Thon on March 5 invites non-Muslim students to experience fasting and learn about Ramadan.

MSA President Ibrahim Ahmed praised the improvements in dining accommodations, noting the new system reduces food waste. Students, however, hope for increased awareness among professors regarding Ramadan accommodations.

A Student Council bill has called for clearer academic accommodations, addressing concerns raised by students, who emphasized the growing sense of community and support for Muslim students at U.Va.
