Trump administration cuts USAID workforce, freezes global aid programs

The Trump administration has placed around 4,200 U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) employees on administrative leave and laid off at least 1,600 more, marking a significant reduction of the agency’s workforce.

The move follows a legal battle that temporarily halted the cuts, but a federal judge ruled Friday that the administration could proceed.

USAID, which employed about 10,000 people before the layoffs, has been a key player in global humanitarian efforts. The agency’s downsizing has already disrupted aid programs worldwide.
