Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has raised alarm over escalating violence in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, calling for urgent protection of civilians and medical teams.
Gunfights and looting in Uvira, South Kivu province, have hindered humanitarian efforts, with hospitals receiving wounded civilians daily, MSF said.
The organization warned of worsening healthcare access and was forced to reduce staff in Uvira while continuing mpox treatment efforts. MSF also continues treating the wounded in Bukavu and other conflict-hit areas.
The crisis follows the capture of Bukavu by M23 rebels, who seized Goma last month. The conflict has displaced over 7 million people and caused more than 3,000 deaths since late January, according to the UN.
