South Korea pledges $3 million to aid displaced Afghans

South Korea has committed $3 million in humanitarian aid to support displaced Afghans, returning refugees, and vulnerable host communities, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) announced on Sunday.
The funding will be used to build permanent shelters for 400 households, benefiting approximately 2,800 people, many of whom have returned to Afghanistan after years of displacement.
The initiative also includes mental health and psychosocial support programs for 34,000 individuals affected by prolonged conflict.
Afghanistan continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis, with millions living in inadequate housing due to decades of war and natural disasters.
The newly funded shelters will be designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, providing safe housing in designated reintegration areas.
UNHCR’s Representative in Afghanistan, Arafat Jamal, welcomed the support, emphasizing its role in offering both immediate relief and long-term solutions for vulnerable communities.
