British government warns Iraqi and Syrian migrants of slavery upon arrival

The British government has launched a new publicity campaign aimed at curbing smuggling operations across the English Channel into Britain, particularly targeting refugees from Iraq and Syria, according to the Express newspaper on Sunday.

The campaign includes testimonies and warnings about the risk of Iraqis and Syrians facing “slavery” if they enter British territory. The Express explained that the “gangs” orchestrating smuggling operations across the English Channel exploit refugees illegally within Britain.

The newspaper revealed that these so-called “smuggling gangs,” as described by the British government, blackmail refugees—especially Iraqis and Syrians—forcing them to work for free and commit unlawful acts to repay their smuggling fees, which are described as “indeterminate.”

This situation reportedly leaves refugees in a state of perpetual slavery under these criminal gangs. The Express added that the British government launched this campaign in an attempt to control the influx of refugees crossing the English Channel, which has seen a 25% rise in smuggling cases over the past year.
