Syrians uncovered a mass grave near the Ninth Division’s base in Al-Sanamayn, northern Daraa. Local news outlet “Daraa 24” on Saturday reported the remains, primarily bones and clothing, date back over a decade.
This follows the December discovery of a mass grave in Izraa, central Daraa, where 31 bodies, including women and a child, were recovered from an area once controlled by military-linked groups. Another grave was found near Umm al-Qusour on December 21.
The Syrian Civil Defense—commonly known as the White Helmets—warned against unprofessional handling of mass graves, citing risks to evidence critical for accountability and justice for victims’ families. They urged authorities to manage exhumations properly to preserve forensic integrity.
