Karachi takes measures to ensure public safety during New Year’s celebrations
Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has issued a notification to impose Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code for 48 hours, starting December 31, 2024, to prevent New Year’s Eve activities such as aerial firing and fireworks, which have caused injuries in the past.
The notification, issued on December 24, highlights concerns over large gatherings at Seaview, which cause traffic congestion and inconvenience to residents, Pakistani news outlet, The Dawn, reported.
The ban prohibits carrying/displaying arms, aerial firing, and firecrackers citywide from December 31 to January 1, 2025. Similar restrictions were enforced in previous years to ensure public safety during celebrations.
