ISIS claims responsibility for Kabul suicide bombing targeting Taliban minister

ISIS has claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing in Kabul that killed Khalil Rahman Haqqani, the Taliban’s Minister for Refugees and Repatriation. In a statement released on Wednesday, the group said Haqqani was the primary target of the attack, Afghan Amu news agency reported.

According to ISIS, the bomber breached security at the ministry’s compound and detonated an explosive vest as Haqqani exited the building with aides and bodyguards. The blast reportedly killed Haqqani and several others in his entourage.

The Taliban, which has downplayed ISIS activity in Afghanistan, confirmed the attack but did not release casualty details. ISIS has previously launched high-profile attacks targeting Taliban officials, religious sites, and civilians since the group took power in 2021.
