Pakistani authorities crack down on anti-army social media propaganda

Pakistani authorities have arrested 22 individuals and booked 150 suspects, mainly linked to Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, for allegedly spreading propaganda against the Army on social media, media outlets reported Wednesday.

The arrests follow the November 26 incident in Islamabad, where PTI claims 12 party workers were killed and hundreds injured during protests. The government denies the use of firearms and blames the unrest on the protesters.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) launched 117 raids, primarily in Punjab, to apprehend individuals accused of violating the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). A special task force, led by the FIA chief, has been established to address such cases.

Amnesty International has condemned the violence, calling for a transparent investigation into the deaths, injuries, and alleged misuse of force by security personnel.
