New mosque opens in Portugal’s Sintra, strengthening cultural and religious ties

The Muslim community in Agualva-Cacém, a town in Portugal’s Sintra region, has inaugurated a new mosque named “Masjid Qasim”. The opening ceremony was attended by local officials, Islamic community leaders from Lisbon, and residents.

Suri Jallow, Vice President of the Islamic Association in Sintra, highlighted the mosque’s dual role as a place of worship and a community hub, which aims to foster connections between Muslims and other communities while hosting diverse cultural and religious activities.

Jallow thanked donors and supporters for their contributions since the project began in 2020, culminating in its completion in 2024. The mosque, which accommodates over 1,000 worshippers, marks a significant milestone for Muslims in the region, promoting tolerance and coexistence.
