Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted eight times on Thursday, with ash plumes reaching up to 8,000 meters. The volcanic activity, which began with a major eruption on Sunday, has caused extensive damage on the island of Flores, East Nusa Tenggara.
Over 2,000 homes were destroyed, and nine people were killed in the initial eruption. Despite continued eruptions, including five more on Thursday morning, the volcano remains highly active, prompting the authorities to maintain a maximum alert level.
More than 5,800 people have been evacuated from nearby areas, with the government working to relocate residents and provide essential supplies. Efforts are underway to build new homes for the displaced, with construction expected to finish in six months.
