‘Blessed Thistle’ pant can regenerate damage nerves, new study says

Researchers from the University of Cologne, Germany, have discovered a completely new use for the plant Cnicus benedictus, known as the blessed thistle, which could significantly contribute to the regeneration of damaged nerves.

This plant, belonging to the Asteraceae family, grows well in temperate climates and has been used for centuries as a medicinal herb to support digestion. However, recent research has revealed that the active compound in this plant, known as ‘Sinesin’, has the remarkable ability to accelerate the growth of nerve fibers (axons).

In both humans and animals, the regeneration of long axons is typically a slow process, often leading to incomplete recovery. However, Sinesin can accelerate this growth, allowing nerve fibers to reach their target before irreparable damage occurs.

The research showed that administering a daily dose of Sinesin to mice and rats significantly improved cases of paralysis and neuropathy.
