Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture launches tree planting campaign along Holy Najaf-Karbala Road

The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture has launched a wide-ranging campaign to plant trees along the road connecting the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf.

This initiative aims to enhance the environmental infrastructure of this vital route, which is used by millions of pilgrims from both inside Iraq and abroad during commemorating large occasions of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them.

In a statement reported Shia Shia Agency, the ministry noted that this step follows an extensive meeting held in Holy Karbala, attended by the Minister of Agriculture Abbas Jabr Al-Maliki, Karbala Governor Nasif Jassim Al-Khatabi, representatives from the holy shrines, and several general directors from the Ministries of Agriculture and Water Resources, in addition to the technical assistant to the Governor of Najaf and representatives from relevant departments responsible for executing the “Ya Ali” and “Ya Hussein” roads.

During the meeting, Al-Maliki emphasized the importance of the road and directed the use of evergreen trees that can withstand salinity and high temperatures, indicating that the project will be completed before the upcoming pilgrimage season.

For his part, Al-Khatabi explained that the project is part of a larger national tree-planting campaign, urging the team to benefit from past experiences and clearly define the routes and tasks assigned to the technical teams responsible for implementing the project.

The directors general of horticulture, forestry, and desertification pledged to provide over one million diverse seedlings to serve this road, affirming that these efforts will contribute to improving the overall environment and providing quality services to visitors.
