Yemen: Houthis ask UN human rights agency to close office

Houthi forces in Yemen have asked a UN human rights agency in Sanaa shut down its office, the Arab News reported, adding that this move comes amid an increasing crackdown on UN agencies and international organizations.

Yemeni Human Rights Minister Ahmed Arman revealed to the media on Tuesday that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights office in Sanaa received a letter from the Houthi Foreign Minister on Monday, instructing the office to close within three days.

Reports suggest that the Houthis have accused Yemenis working with international organizations of using humanitarian missions as a cover for espionage activities for the US and Israel. They also claimed that these organizations employ agents for these countries and undermine Yemen’s agricultural, health, and educational sectors.
