China at forefront of adopting GenAI technology, new study finds
According to a recent survey conducted by U.S.-based AI and analytics software company SAS and Coleman Parkes Research, China is at the forefront of adopting generative AI technology, as reported by Reuters.
The survey, which polled 1,600 decision-makers across various industries globally, revealed that 83% of Chinese respondents reported using generative AI, surpassing the adoption rates of 16 other countries and regions, including the United States, where only 65% had adopted GenAI.
The industries covered in the survey ranged from banking and insurance to healthcare, telecommunications, manufacturing, retail, and energy.
China’s significant progress in the generative AI field has been highlighted following the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in late 2022, which spurred numerous Chinese companies to develop their own versions of the technology.
A recent report from the United Nations’ World Intellectual Property Organization further demonstrated China’s dominance in the GenAI patent landscape.
The report indicated that China had filed over 38,000 patents related to generative AI between 2014 and 2023, significantly more than the 6,276 filed by the United States during the same period.
