Iraq has ranked 11th globally and 2nd in the Arab world among the countries most affected by terrorism, according to the Global Terrorism Index 2023.
According to a statement by the Strategic Center for Human Rights, “Iraq is ranked second after Syria among the countries most affected by terrorism according to the Global Terrorism Index.”
Syria ranked first in the Arab world and fifth globally among the countries most affected by terrorism, with a score of 7.890 points, according to the statement from the center’s president, Fadel Al-Gharawi.
He pointed out that “Iraq ranks second in the Arab world and 11th globally with 7.078 points, followed by Burkina Faso and Pakistan.”
The number of terrorism victims, both “martyrs” and injured, since 2016 until now is approximately 600,000 civilians and military personnel, according to Al-Gharawi.
He confirmed that “Iraq has begun to recover from the impacts of terrorism, with a 90% reduction in terrorist operations and violations in 2024 compared to 2015.”
The president of the Strategic Center for Human Rights called on the Iraqi government and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to launch a major military operation to pursue and eliminate the remnants of the ISIS terrorist organization.
