Tell MAMA launches Manifesto for next UK government to tackle hate crime
Tell MAMA, a national initiative tracking anti-Muslim incidents in the UK, has introduced its Manifesto Against Hate ahead of the upcoming General Elections on July 4.
In its Manifesto, the pro-Muslim organization calls on British political candidates to tackle the rising hate crimes nationwide and enhance social cohesion through several well-defined initiatives.
According to Tell MAMA’s official website, there has been a worrying increase in such incidents in recent months. The organization noted that since the Hamas attacks on Southern Israel on October 7 and the ongoing Israel-Gaza War, there has been a notable rise in anti-Muslim hate crimes.
From October 7 to February 7, the UK-based group recorded 2,010 Islamophobic incidents, mainly targeting Muslim women and occurring on social media platforms, a significant increase from the 600 incidents reported during the same period the previous year.
Tell MAMA highlighted that this surge in Islamophobic incidents necessitates improved measures to counter hate speech and physical attacks. The organization believes that the initiatives outlined in its Manifesto can effectively address hate crimes and promote social cohesion throughout the UK.
