Taliban orders closure of Tamadon TV, Khatam al-Nabiyyin University

The Taliban Ministry of Justice announced the closure of Tamadon TV and the educational centres affiliated to the Hawza of Khatam al-Nabiyyin, claiming that they belong to a political party.

According to local Afghan sources, educational activities of the Khatam al-Nabiyyin School and University have been halted, with the Taliban claiming ownership of the land on which these institutions were built.

Mohammad Jawad Mohseni, the property manager of Khatam al-Nabiyyin University, denied the Taliban’s allegations, pointing out that the land on which the institutions were constructed was legally purchased, and they hold legitimate property titles and legal records.

Mohseni emphasized that the constructions were carried out after his resignation from the now-defunct party, and legal and property documents for these lands are available.

This move is seen as a silencing of the national unity and Islamic brotherhood, prompting the Shia Ulema Council in several Afghan provinces to express their dissatisfaction with this decision.

While the Shia Ulema Council calls for a reconsideration of these decisions, some religious leaders see the necessity of forming a neutral committee to examine the legal and property documents of these institutions.
