HRW criticizes deliberate disregard for human rights by governments

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has criticized the deliberate disregard for human rights by governments that do not recognize the importance of these rights in achieving sustainable development goals.

In its recent statement received by Shia Waves Agency, the organization said: “Many governments around the world that recognize the importance of sustainable development often overlook that human rights are the key to achieving this goal.”

It continued to say that “most governments that acknowledge the importance of adherence to human rights law turn a blind eye to the atrocities committed against innocent civilians in Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, and elsewhere.”

HRW emphasized that “the Universal Declaration of Human Rights represents a crucial opportunity to affirm the shining vision of human rights, which cannot be abandoned under any circumstances faced by humanity,” urging governments to “work to promote unity and commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and strive to protect and enhance peace, security, and development.”

It pointed out that it is important to highlight “the importance and right of individuals to exercise freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and press freedom,” noting that “this is never implemented in countries currently experiencing wars and conflicts, such as the Israeli war on Gaza.”

It is worth mentioning that Kenya will host the United Nations Civil Society Conference from May 9-10, aiming to make new formulations to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, seeking to end oppression and improve human life, and not allowing governments to trample on the rights of their people.
