UNESCO classifies Morocco as first country in Holy Quran Memorization
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has classified the Kingdom of Morocco as one of the leading countries globally in Quran memorization, reflecting the strong commitment of the Moroccan people to the teachings of Islam and the preservation of the Holy Quran.
The number of Quran memorizers in Morocco is estimated to be over one and a half million people, embodying the deep religious spirit and interest in the rich Islamic heritage in the country.
The official figure of Quran memorizers in Morocco, which stands at 1,628,054, is a clear indication of the distinguished status of the kingdom in this field.
It is worth noting that 68% of the total Quran memorizers in Morocco comes from villages and rural areas, highlighting the important role of rural communities in spreading Islamic culture and Quranic education.
Morocco also stands out for having a vast number of Quran memorization centers and schools, exceeding 30,000 centers, representing significant excellence compared to other Islamic countries in Africa.
Throughout the year, Morocco hosts annual competitions and festivals dedicated to teaching, perfecting, and memorizing the Quran, alongside honoring new male and female memorizers of the Quran, contributing to fostering a spirit of positive competition and motivating youth to join Quran memorizers.
