Taliban targets hundreds of relatives of former government employees, official figures, new report reveals
A new report conducted by the International Organization for Tolerance of Human Rights revealed that the Taliban movement targeted and killed relatives of political opponents and former government military employees, including innocent children and women.
The organization stated in its report, which was reviewed by Shia Waves Agency, that “the terrorist Taliban movement has even sought revenge on the families of former Afghan government employees and relatives of political opponents.”
The report continued, “In the past two days, an 8-year-old child was killed in the city of Bamyan, whose mother was a member of the police forces affiliated with the former government, in addition to the killing of a 13-year-old child in Badakhshan whose father was opposed to the movement.”
The organization indicated that in 2023, “at least 82 former government employees were deliberately killed without legal trials,” noting that “among the victims were 68 soldiers from the former government and 14 other employees in civilian administrations.”
According to the organization’s report, “at least 506 people were killed and 266 others were injured in various incidents of human rights violations in Afghanistan,” pointing out that “government employees, human rights defenders, and Taliban opponents are victims of these practices.”
