Norwegian writer says women in Europe are oppressed, marginalized
Norwegian writer and social political researcher, Linn Stalsberg, stated that women are oppressed in Europe, emphasizing that the European economy still fundamentally marginalizes women in the presence of governments supported by the far-right.
Stalsberg mentioned in an interview viewed by Shia Waves Agency: “The European system, in both its political and economic aspects, has not fundamentally abandoned the view of women as if their primary task is to do household chores and take care of children. Therefore, when they enter the workforce, they often receive lower wages simply because they are female.”
In response to those who may accuse her of exaggeration or sensationalism, she said: “Let’s all look at the statistics, numbers do not lie. There is real injustice against women in my country and across Europe. We do not falsify reality or claim anything other than the truth.”
Stalsberg revealed that “almost half of mothers in Norway work part-time, and most women struggle with time constraints due to the multiple roles required of them.”
While this may seem shocking to Arab readers who believe that women in Europe live a comfortable life, she affirmed that “there are mistaken stereotypical mental images between East and West, and that the situation in Norway is comfortable and good, but that does not mean we live in paradise”.
Stalsberg pointed out “the significant increase in the inflation rate in Norway, for example, as well as the worsening problem of verbal and physical violence against women.”
