Inventor of world’s first artificial heart passes away at 87
Professor Tofigh “Tofy” Mussivand, an Iranian-Canadian medical engineer of Kurdish origin who invented an artificial cardiac pump, passed away at the age of 87.
Born in 1942, Mosivand was a graduate of agricultural engineering from Tehran University, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Canada, and a doctorate in medicine and heart surgery specialist from Carleton University of Canada.
He invented 36 technologies in medical devices and owned 20 patents. He authored and published over 500 books, papers, technical reports, and editorials.
