Ongoing Clashes in Myanmar’s Rakhine State Kill 30 Rohingya Civilians
In the latest escalation of violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, about 30 members of the Rohingya minority have been killed in clashes between the military junta and ethnic Buddhist insurgents, RFA reported yesterday.
Airstrikes by the junta forces targeting the Arakan Army (AA) militant group killed 12 Rohingya civilians, while the AA’s drone attack on a school sheltering Rohingya resulted in the death of 18 more. Over 200 people were wounded in the incidents.
The persecuted Rohingya community is being caught in the crossfire of the increasingly bitter fighting between the military and the AA, which is battling for autonomy in the region.
The exact casualty toll remains unclear due to difficulties in communication, but the attacks have heightened fears for the vulnerable Rohingya population.
