12 killed, dozens injured after Myanmar junta shells civilians in crowded market
A deadly incident occurred in western Myanmar as a junta battalion shelled a crowded market in Sittwe, Rakhine state, resulting in the deaths of 12 people and leaving 18 critically injured, RFA reported.
The attack took place during a busy time of day, with most of the victims being women, children, and the elderly who were vendors and shoppers, the website added.
The area has been tense due to clashes between the junta and the rebel group Arakan Army, leading to increased violence and casualties. The situation remains volatile as both sides continue to engage in conflict, causing significant harm to the local population.
