Indonesia Dismisses Prison Head Over Alleged Forcing of Dog Meat on Muslim Inmates
………
Indonesia’s Immigration and Corrections Minister Agus Andrianto confirmed the dismissal of the head of the Enemawira Correctional Institution in North Sulawesi over allegations that he coerced Muslim inmates into consuming dog meat, Indonesian news agency Antara reported. The ministry began investigating the matter four days after receiving the report, and an ethics hearing has already been conducted.
The prison head, identified as CS, was questioned by the North Sulawesi Corrections Office on November 27 and immediately removed from his position, with a caretaker appointed to lead the facility. Authorities are examining claims that the incident occurred during a celebratory event, and the Directorate General of Corrections has issued an investigation order to determine any breaches of regulations and ethics.
Lawmakers criticized the alleged act as religiously offensive and a human rights violation, emphasizing that prison officials must respect inmates’ faith and that misconduct will not be tolerated under Indonesian law.
